Path Moving Forward

One Foot In Front of the Other...

Who are we?
The Meadowlark Trail Society was formed by members of both communities of Beiseker and Irricana as well as rural community members, with a shared goal of developing a community link between the two close communities.

Our Vision
The Meadowlark trail will be a non-motorized pathway connecting the communities of Beiseker and Irricana.  There will be bollards, fencing, and/or natural barriers used to discourage motorized vehicle access, with plans that will allow emergency vehicle access if needed.
The hopes are that this trail will serve the surrounding communities as a safe place for walking, jogging, biking, and strollers to promote healthy living as well as a safe route for Irricana students to bike to school in Beiseker.

As well as providing accessible safe recreation to community members it will bring Economic and Tourism opportunities to existing businesses as well as the possibility of new ventures.

Anticipated Trail Users
It is anticipated that the majority of trail users will be the residents from Irricana, Beiseker, and rural locations along the trail and their visitors.  Other users may include tourists from nearby communities who are interested in exploring this area of the province.  The trail will provide an excellent recreational opportunity for residents, for non-motorized travel between the two communities, for special events, or school fitness programs.

Coexisting in an Agricultural Area
  • Farmers who own land on both sides of the trail will be provided access locations to allow livestock or farm machinery movement across the trail.
  • Private property will be clearly marked and signage posted advising trail users to stay on the trail and restrict their uses to the trail corridor.

Funding
Funding from this pathway will come from a number of sources including:
  • Grants from TCT, Alberta TrailNet and other levels of government and private companies
  • Donations from private donors
  • Local fundraising events

What Next
An application has been submitted to Rockyview county to rezone the land for recreation. Subject to council approval the Meadowlark Trail Society will then apply for the necessary Development and Building Permits to build the culvert and 2 bridges that are necessary to complete this pathway.

Stay tuned for volunteer opportunities to help with this project!!
