Though I left Beiseker over 60 years ago, I was delighted to hear of the opening of the Meadowlark Trail. Such positive memories from my youth! During the 1950s I spent a lot of time walking on the railroad tracks, usually alone with my thoughts, more often going north out of town beginning at what we called Richter's Slough.(a fascinating, expansive "swamp" in those years with an abundance of birds, frogs, ducks, partridges and pheasants and in winter, the best skating arena imaginable!) Fenceposts and telephone wires constantly welcomed and supported many singing meadowlarks. They seemed to follow me singing just for my pleasure; just for my inner healing; their distinctive tune proclaiming "Everything will be okay." I could always face life better afterwards. Over the following decades, I have taken many walks outside the edge of urban areas where I lived, awaiting their tireless solo performances, carrying the same familiar message. I am never disappointed. It returns me back to Beiseker. What a blessing! Congratulations to all in both villages who supported this venture. You have honoured my treasured past. I am truly grateful.
